Confidential & Nonjudgmental Services at No Cost to You

We really shouldn’t need a “month” to be aware of our cervical health, but it does make us focus even more on it during the month of January.

Your cervix is not something you can see so there is really no way you and I can keep an eye on it to make sure it is doing ok.  Your doctor can see it by using a speculum and opening things up a bit.  Therefore, since we cannot see it, we need to be sure we are being safe, careful, and visiting our doctor or clinic on a regular basis—especially if you are sexually active.

The cervix is very hormonally sensitive and is often the first site of bacterial or viral infections.  These can include cervical cancer, sexually transmitted infections, and some other issues. Around 90% of cervical cancer is caused by HPV (human papillomavirus).

There are over 70 different strains of HPV.  Some of these strains enter our body and leave without doing much damage.  Other strains can lead to serious consequences.  Anyone who is sexually active can get at least one type of HPV, even if it was with only one person, but infections are more likely in people who have had many sex partners.

HPV is spread skin-to-skin.  There is no condom in the world that covers that entire area.  Condoms do provide some protection but we cannot count on condoms to protect us completely and safely.

HPV is very common, even in your community.  Even though it is so common, cervical cancer does not have to be!  Schedule an appointment today to get checked.  We do HPV testing here at MyLife, but do some research because we are not the only ones.  Your OB/GYN is really your best option for testing.

Take care of YOUR health.  Get tested.  Right away.
