Considering Parenting?

Let’s face it: Parenting can be challenging! Diapers, homework assignments, college decisions…there can be a lot of stress involved. But parenting can also bring much joy. Many parents argue that their love for their child is like no other. Raising children helps you grow in ways you never thought possible.

If you’re facing an unexpected pregnancy, you might wonder how you could possibly be a parent. Perhaps you don’t have the financial resources you need, or you require safer housing. Make no mistake, the path toward parenthood can be difficult, but it is achievable. There are resources and support systems available to help you.

Do I Have What It Takes To Be A Parent?

Think carefully about what parenting would mean for you. How would it impact your daily life or work schedule? There is much to consider, and thinking about these questions can be a great help:

  1. Do I have a strong support system in place to help me parent?
  2. Am I financially stable enough to support a child?
  3. What am I worried about most when it comes to parenting?
  4. What qualities do I need to be a good parent?
  5. Are there resources I would need during my parenting journey?

Answering these questions can provide a good foundation for what you’ll need to consider as you weigh your options. And speaking to one of our client advocates will provide you with the information you need to find support.

Parenting In School

If you’re in high school or college, the idea of parenting may sound particularly daunting. How can you raise a child while finishing your education? It may be more possible than you think. Pregnancy and childbirth-based discrimination is against the law in the United States, and you have rights. Local pregnancy centers like MyLife can connect you to community resources that provide financial and material assistance.

Even when it feels like the odds are against you, know that you have support. You can do this.

Parenting Support

MyLife is proud to offer various parenting resources. We provide no-cost material supplies for your baby, like baby swings, diapers, blankets, and wipes. We also offer parenting classes on topics like childbirth and infant care so that you can prepare yourself for every stage.

Our center is involved with Missouri’s Alternatives to Abortion (A2A) program, which provides various support services to pregnant women who wish to carry their child to term. Support is offered until the child is 12 months of age. We have been able to help so many women with car payments, utility bills, domestic violence support, rent, etc. The A2A program is offered at no cost to you and can help alleviate the financial burdens you may have.
