On-Site Pregnancy Tests

You may have already taken an at-home pregnancy test and received a positive result. But it’s best to confirm that result with a no-cost, lab-quality pregnancy test. These are highly sensitive, urine-based tests that can offer results instantly. But how do they work?

Understanding hCG

HCG is a hormone produced during pregnancy. Both blood and urine-based tests detect this hormone as its level rises rapidly during the early stages of pregnancy. The best time to take a pregnancy test is a few days after your missed period or about 3 weeks after sexual intercourse. This gives hCG time to build in your body and increases your chances of receiving an accurate result. Most women undergo regular bloodwork to ensure hCG levels are rising rapidly, especially if there is a chance of miscarriage.

Limited Ultrasounds

After you’ve confirmed your pregnancy, you may already have a decision in mind. You’ll still want to receive an ultrasound to protect your health, verify your pregnancy, and prove you have a viable pregnancy. An ultrasound is a scan that detects the following:

  • Viability: Up to 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, so it’s best to determine whether your pregnancy is growing normally and has a healthy heartbeat. If you are miscarrying, you don’t want to pay for an abortion, plus you may require further medical treatment.
  • Gestational age: Knowing how far along you are can date your pregnancy and help determine which abortion procedure you may be eligible for if you are considering this outcome.
  • Location: Your pregnancy’s location is vital. Sometimes, an ectopic pregnancy can result when the fertilized egg implants in an area other than the uterus, such as in a fallopian tube. This condition is dangerous and always requires medical treatment. MyLife cannot diagnose an ectopic pregnancy, but we should be able to rule it out once the pregnancy has been located in the uterus. We will send you home with a list of symptoms and medical referrals.

Ultrasounds Available at MyLife

MyLife offers transvaginal and abdominal ultrasounds following a positive pregnancy test at our center. These ultrasounds don’t have term limits and are used to confirm if you have a viable pregnancy and verify critical information.

If you choose to continue your pregnancy, we offer limited prenatal care until your Medicaid or other insurance coverage kicks in. Our team can provide you with referrals to reputable doctors and hospitals, as well as help you with the Medicaid enrollment process. We’re here for you every step of the way.
